Continuous Radon Monitoring

RALEIGH RADON provides short-term radon testing throughout the Triangle area.  Unless otherwise requested, all radon tests are performed with Sun Nuclear 1028 Continuous Radon Monitors, which take measurements every hour for 48 continuous hours.

After the 48-hour testing period, the results are known immediately, and a detailed report is emailed to clients the same day.  The monitors contain a motion detector, so any tampering of the device is noted in the report.

Charcoal Canisters

Charcoal canisters are a cost-effective alternative to continuous radon monitoring.  Two canisters containing activated charcoal are placed side-by-side at the lowest habitable level of the house, where they remain for 2-7 days to absorb radon gas. 

After the testing period, a sodium iodide detector is used in a laboratory to measure the radon that the charcoal absorbed.  Because of this laboratory process, the results of the test are not known immediately.  The results are typically emailed to clients 2-3 business days after the completion of the testing period.

Scheduling

Radon tests can be scheduled to begin any day of the week at a time convenient for you.

As a member of the Triangle MLS, Lindsay can access properties that are currently listed on the market. Because of this controlled access, Realtors and homeowners do not need to be present when the radon monitors are set-up or when the tests are concluded.

To achieve an accurate reading, the radon monitor must be left untouched for 2 days on the lowest habitable floor of the house. Doors and windows should not be left open, and fans should not be turned on in the room. These requirements should be taken into consideration when scheduling a radon test.
